Dylan’s story began when his parents met on Bob Dylan’s yacht. They named their son after him and a life in music soon followed. Music was revered in the Ollivierre household with Dylan starting out writing joke songs about his sisters and making noise over radio recordings. His ambition to create began early and a career in music felt like a viable goal.
Launching the Money War, the band he shares with wife Carmen Ollivierre, successfully worked as a CV to gain further music production work. An early track was added to rotation on Triple J and touring opportunities with the likes of Crowded House, Holy Holy and Meg Mac soon followed. Working as a touring musician for over ten years allowed Dylan to experience both sides of the studio glass. This is where he has always felt most at home.
As a songwriter/producer Dylan has cuts with the likes of Grentperez, Meg Mac, Tia Gostelow, Holy Holy, Great Gable, and Siobhan Cotchin – as well as sync placements on Netflix specials, HBO shows, ABC docos, and more. Dylan is driven to create records that will stand the test of time. He takes a song-based approach identifying the music’s potential and then builds a sonic world to enhance emotional connection. His approach is open, without ego, and he works relentlessly towards maximising the music’s emotional impact. Sometimes the best approach to present a song is bare bones. Other times it takes the most epic production possible. It all depends on the song – and there’s no limit to Dylan’s efforts in reaching a song’s potential. Dylan’s quest for the timeless in songwriting and production will ensure artists feel proud of their work for many years.
Highlights of Dylan’s career presently include multiple placements in the ARIA charts; two feature albums and a dozen playlist additions and Hottest 100 entries on Triple J; over 80 million streams; nomination for the Australian Music Prize; 10 plus WAM Song of the Year wins; and signing to Mirror Music/BMG on a worldwide publishing deal. No less an authority than Neil Finn of Crowded House declared that Dylan ‘is a great songwriter’.
Currently, Dylan is working on an album for Joan and the Giants (who have been touring with P!NK and Belinda Carlisle), writing with The Buoys as well as putting the finishing touches on his debut solo EP. Dylan is also a committed family man with three young children.
