Almost the end of March already! Well I wasn’t able to keep up a monthly blog post, but life has just the front seat and bloggy woggy was left in the dust, until now. This one is going to be brief
I wanted to write about releasing my own music again and my motivations for doing so. These blog posts have been really useful for me to journal and answer my own questions as I write – so here goes!
I’ve learnt that I need to be creative to channel my energy into something constructive, whether it be music, cooking, carpentry, gardening etc. I am a much happier person when I am able to lose myself in what I’m doing and get out of my mind for a bit- these things bring me into contact with that feeling. For the last few years I’ve predominantly helping other people realize their music and my own has taken a back seat. This is for a number of reasons but the main one being becoming a father and having young kids to provide for and to be around for. I’ve felt guilty using my time to create anything that didnt feel directly productive and I think rightfully so given that there are three young children that need me and a wife that is already running on energy rations. In the last few months I’ve felt a little bit more freedom creep in and naturally inspiration and song ideas have popped into my head. I’ve been realizing these ideas since late last year and I’m on track to start releasing some songs again mid 2024.
While my commitment to the songs has me holding myself to a very high standard, I really have no interest in spending much time creating content for social media and playing live isn’t really feasible with my current family situation. So my expectation for reaching a large audience is very low. I’ve definitely had the conversation in my head “well why spend so much energy making it if no-one is going to hear it?” and all I can say is; my whole life that’s all I’ve ever done – been carried by an inspiration or idea for something and then followed it through. The purpose of the project always became clear later on. So much of the cool stuff that I’ve been fortunate to do in my life started with a little idea that I felt necessary to pursue for my soul. These songs feel very necessary for me to express myself and I believe strongly in sharing art. Hopefully someone out there hears the songs and likes it, it would be great if more did too . I’m looking at putting out the first song in July, so stay posted!
